Farmer’s Market Find

This afternoon we took a short trip to the State Farmer’s Market in Raleigh. Everything at the market always looks so beautiful; I don’t know why we don’t go more often! With a little cash in hand we walked the entire market with Puddin’. I forget about the variety of items available at the market. Plants, fruits and vegetables are not the only thing you will find at the market. There are many other great local items offered like meats, cheeses and bakery items.  And, you will also find some great NC wines, handcrafted soaps and lotions.

After making our way around the entire market we decided on a couple of small seedless watermelons and three sprite melons. We were so happy to find the sprite melons! The last time we had them was when I was pregnant with Puddin’. The supermarket where we originally discovered them has closed and we could not find them at the grocery stores we frequent.

Sprite melons are very sweet and look like a mini honeydew melons (about the size of a grapefruit). The taste is much like pears and honeydew but much sweeter. If you live in North Carolina and haven’t had a sprite melon you can try to find one at your local farmer’s market. The vendor we bought from today says they expect to have sprite melons for at least another month.
