A Love Letter to Single Parents

Dear Single Parents,

I’ve always admired you. I grew up a true Gen-x’r and a child of divorce, with my mother leading the charge. She raised us, went to nursing school and worked her ass off to provide a better life for me and my sister.

However I didn’t really get it.

My husband just got home from a 16 day work trip to London. During that time, it was just me and Peanut and quite frankly, I don’t think I realized how much he actually does until now.

Believe me, I got my fill of taking out the trash, unloading the dishwasher, and putting away the laundry (chores I HATE). Let’s not even go into the sixth grade math homework that left me stumped each and every night. (Sorry mom, that’s another reason I didn’t go to med school — math.)

What you do is hard. And you do it on your own, day in and day out. There are no breaks to go soak in the tub because you’ve got a raging migraine. No asking someone else to heat up the veggies in the microwave. It’s just you.

I admire and respect the hell out of you and because of what you do every single day without fail, I appreciate my life even more.

Thank you for being who you are and if your friends and family don’t get it? Tell them to talk to me.

Thank you for such beautiful thoughts. When I was a single parent albeit a young single parent, I did at the time what I thought was my best. Looking back, I know I could have done more. I am just so proud of you and your sister. A lot of kids from single parent homes do not do as well as the two of you did. I am so thankful everyday that I never had to bail a kid out of jail, and I didn’t have to worry about you doing drugs. You girls were always home, and your friends were there as well. Thank you for supporting the sinle moms out there. They need all of our support.

  6. Thank you. Always.

  7. I’ll make a note of that and offer my bff a break 🙂 She knows I’m here anytime to help her out. I don’t know how she does it.

  8. Thank you babe. Thank you. I’ll hug your neck on Sunday, ok? xoxo.

  9. It’s not. I don’t know how you do it. I really don’t. But admire the hell out of you.

  10. I love you, Momma. Thank you for everything you did and all the sacrifices you made.

  11. Thank you, Lisa. 🙂

You know what’s hard now, I’ve gotten so use to being a single parent, that now when I have Rob, to help me it’s hard for me to step down and allow him to help me.
