When Peanut was a baby, I wished there were interactive theatre experiences. While we’re beyond that stage now, many of my friends aren’t and I think it would be a pleasant field trip for them. After all, anytime you can get rid of the “mommy uniform” and dress in something that isn’t stained and smells of spit-up.
Theatre Charlotte is making those dreams come true for the tired, the bleary eyed and the perpetually sleepy.
This August, “Theatre for the Very Young” makes its Children’s Theatre of Charlotte stage debut with PlayPlay! Theatre’s “Uh-Oh!” (August 16-20). This perfect first theatre experience is designed to be engaging and developmentally appropriate for ages birth-3.
Written and performed by local company PlayPlay! Theatre, “Uh-Oh!” is a simple story of work, play and those “uh-oh!’s” that happen every day. Using stimulating sights and sounds and very basic words and narrative, the actors engage little ones, ignite their curiosity and encourage creative play. Children are free to move, make noise and generally act their age while exploring new environments and experiences.
For this intimate production, audience members will be seated on the stage of the Wells Fargo Playhouse and will interact with props and other elements from the show. The performance includes both pre- and post-show activities, offering an hour of wonder and delight that might even change the way you play with your child.
