Cirque du Soleil and TOTEM {A Grand Chapiteau Event}

I recently was invited to see Cirque du Soleil’s TOTEMGrande Premiere in Charlotte. Of all the events I attend, this one by far was the most amazing one to date. They invited me to the Tapis Rouge pre-show party and later for a tour on site (will post tomorrow). Even now, when I watch video from the show, I sit as I did under the Grand Chapiteau, with bated breath and my mouth open, waiting for next magnificent movement by these amazingly talented athletes.

Totem is a fascinating exploration of humankind’s evolution from water to the desire to take to the air. The characters evolve on a stage evoking a giant turtle, the symbol of origin for many ancient civilizations. Inspired by many founding myths, TOTEM illustrates, through a visual and acrobatic language, the evolutionary progress of species. Somewhere between science and legend TOTEM explores the ties that bind Man to other species, his dreams and his infinite potential.

The acts were intriguing and I could really feel the evolution of mankind from the early Neanderthals to the Cosmonauts wearing printed motifs reminiscent of Mayan drawings. It was a profound awakening to truly look at the world around me and see the beauty of where we came from, to where we are now. To care for Mother Earth and to spread my wings to reach greater heights.

Enjoy the photos that take me back to the majesty that is Cirque:
