Okay, I’m about to share with you something that only a few know about me. Not even Lisa knows this about me. I LOVE the PBS show Rare Visions & Roadside Revelations! I live for this kind of stuff. Nothing makes me happier than just wandering around in the car for an afternoon day trip to find an offbeat attraction. While living in the Midwest my husband and I tried to visit some of the offbeat attractions that Randy, Mike and Don the Camera Guy featured all while traveling in their cramped minivan with their ever growing big ball of tape. Since 1995 they have been documenting outsider artists, grassroots art environments and offbeat folk art.
“From the Garden of Eden in Lucas, Kansas to Dr. Evermor’s Forevertron in Baraboo, Wisconsin to Vollis Simpson’s Windmill Park in North Carolina (and countless places in between) the boys have shown viewers the best the backroads have to offer in terms of art and oddities, food and fun.”
This weekend we took Puddin’ to the Whirligig Festival in Wilson, NC. Just about an hour drive from Raleigh, this was a great afternoon out for our family. Well, at least as long as a two year old is willing to participate anyway. Here are a few photos from our afternoon at the festival. We are already planning another trip to see the Windmill Park and find out more about Vollis Simpson and his whirligigs.
We are cut from the same cloth my friend, right down to the jagged edges!!
